So a bunch of us were talking about playing Freelancer with the Crossfire mod on rainy days when things like server maintainance, no groups are running that kind of thing. So here's a no nonsense guide to installing Freelancer - Crossfire
1. Download and Install Freelancer
You can download Freelancer by torrenting it from most respectable torrent sites, bear in mind this game is no longer in print and you really can't get it any other way unless you still have a original copy of the game.

Torrent files like this require a torrent client. I recommend uTorrent, it's quick, light and clean. Just search utorrent in google.
IMPORTANT :
DO NOT FORGET TO RESTART YOUR PC AFTER INSTALLING FREELANCER
DO NOT INSTALL IT TO DEFAULT LOCATION (IE C:\Program Files\.........)
2. Download Freelancer Mod Manager 1.31
This is a handy little program that can be obtained for free, and is required to activate your crossfire mod.

Install it just above your Freelancer Directory
IE if you installed Freelancer to D:\Games\Simulator\Freelancer
Install FLMM to D:\Game\Simulator\FLMM
3. Download Crossfire Mod version 1.9
Crossfire
This is a big download equalling 1.8gb's compressed, and contains new textures, ships, weapons, equipment and storylines
Run Crossfire.exe, when it's finished run Freelancer Mod Manager and activate Crossfire mod 1.9
This will take a while and FLMM WILL hang and then become non responsive, don't freak it's normal. You'll just have to wait until it finishes enabling the mod. As long as no error boxes turn up and you have a green tick next to Crossfire 1.9 then the mod enabled successfully. If for any reason you got an error box, uninstall everything and try again from scratch
Common reasons for errors - You installed Freelancer to C:\Program Files\.....
It can take a couple of times to get the mod to enable successfully but once you've done that, go ahead and launch the crossfire.exe shortcut on your desktop let it patch and then look for the 24/7 RPG Crossfire V1.9 server (there is only one of them.) and we'll see you somewhere in space.
